The big day was finally here - race day! As with the other recaps this won’t be a full account, but will focus on adding some better photos and filling in some details of the day. I hope you’ve been enjoying the additional posts so far!
Read MoreVacation Recap - Qualifying - Canadian Grand Prix
The recap continues! Saturday was qualifying, and the weather was awful. While that sucked for sitting in the stands in the pouring rain, if we were sitting at home watching this on TV, it would be exactly what we would have been hoping for! Qualifying under wet conditions almost always results in surprises and usually ends up with an interesting starting grid for race day.

As with the other recap posts, I am adding some photos from various parts of our trip. This post collects the first 2 days of our experience at the Canadian Grand Prix - the Pit Lane Walk (Thursday) and Practice (Friday).
Read MoreVacation Recap - Magog
This recap post is focused on the part of the trip in and around Magog. As before, it’s mostly the better photos from my camera to augment the larger post of the trip that I did as the trip progressed.
Read MoreVacation Recap - Hudson and the Laurentians
As I mentioned in the main post of our excellent Montreal (and region) vacation in early June, all the photos I posted were from my phone, and I needed time to look through the photos I took with a “proper” camera. I’m slowly working through those, and this first post covers the early part of the trip in Hudson and the Laurentians. There’s not going to be a lot of commentary here, mainly just (I hope) pretty pictures to look at.
Read MoreA Return to Europe
After almost 3 years, I finally had a chance to get back to Europe! It was a quick trip for work, crammed in between our Las Vegas trip and our vacation in Montreal. It gave me the chance to get back to Toulouse to see the team, as well as spend a bit of time in the UK, both for work and on the weekend to see some friends.
Read MoreQueen's Jubilee Party
While I was in the UK, I got to spend the weekend with my friends Mark, Rachel and Arwen. My timing was amazing as it was the weekend of the Queen’s Jubilee, and Mark’s neighbourhood put on a very fun Jubilee party. I managed to get a few fun pics from the day of the party that I thought I’d share.
Read MoreBirthday Weekend - Las Vegas!
Well, we finally did - travelling again! After a delay of 2 years (thanks COVID) we finally got my birthday weekend trip to Las Vegas in! My birthday weekend actually started on my birthday with an excellent day off with my friend Stuart playing some golf and watching a baseball game. The it was off to Las Vegas!
Read MoreGaliano Early May Update
The spring (such that it is) is getting really busy for us, so with a lot of events and trips planned, our visits to Gaiano are going to be less frequent. I thought I’d give a quick update from our last trip and to show the progress of the gardens and such.
Read MoreThe Return of Sports
One of the things we’ve missed most during COVID has been live sports. While we managed to see an event here or there, this year has really started to feel like things returning to normal a bit more. April was a real beginning for this - Canadian Women’s National Soccer Team, Rugby 7s and the return of the Whitecaps really cemented it all.
Read MoreThe Roof Deck is Open... Well Almost
One of the chores we most look forward too each spring is cleaning the roof, and getting it ready for summer. It’s usually about a half day effort, pressure washing the roof, cleaning the glass and replanting flowers in the planters. Here are some pictures on the progress we’ve made!
Read MoreA Last Spring Flowers Post
If you’re not much into flowers, this probably isn’t the post for you… I made my first trip into the US for work, heading down to Bellevue for the day. As it’s that time of year, I took my time coming back and stopped in some of the Tulip Festival sites that run each spring. And while spring has been significantly delayed this year, the blossoms around the city have been amazing.
Read MoreSpring Projects Continue
We headed over to Galiano for another week-long stay. This approach has been working well for us - it gives us time to relax, time to do some projects and stay well connected with work. StarLink has made a huge difference in that respect. As our weekends seem to be getting busy (more on that to come), it really provides some great flexibility. We’re making good progress, and this trip provided enough good weather to tackle a few things.
Read MoreSpring Flowers!
Spring is finally arriving! After what has felt like a very long winter, the spring blossoms have started to appear. I am way over due on some updates, so i will work on pulling a number of posts together, starting with this very quick one with lots of flowers from a walk around the neighborhood earlier this week!

I’ve been lax on updates on the progress on Galiano. It’s been a very productive sproing for us, as we’ve tackled many projects (and spent way too much money) getting a lot done around the cottage. I thought I’d use this post to catch up on a bunch of them.
Read MoreCartbinder Brewing
One thing I have always wanted to try was brewing my own beer. It seemed like a good COVID project (we’ve certainly been drinking enough of it!), so we bought all the gear needed to make our first batch and try our hands at it.

I am once again falling behind on updates! While there hasn’t been a lot going on at home or at work, we’ve made a couple of trips over to Galiano to make progress on a few of the projects we’re trying to get done over the winter. This post gets us caught up on two trips - a short weekend visit and a longer 10-day trip over.
Read MoreBack on the Slopes - and Back to Whistler
With COVID, we’ve been missing out on a lot of things that we like to do. Most notably has been travel of course, but it’s also been almost three years since we’ve been skiing! It’s hard to imagine, and this weekend Justine and I got back out on the slopes, taking a triop up to Whistler for the day. It was a strange day, with a mixture of conditions, but it was great to get back out!
Read MoreA First Visit to Reifel - with Simon
We had a break in the weather and booked a spot for a visit to Reifel - our first of the season! Our friend Simon decided to come along, and it wa sa first time visit for him, which was fun. We had nice blue skis, reasonable temperatures and most importantly no more snow on the ground to deal with. It had remained fairly cool, so there was still some ice on the ponds. Which gave us the always fun ducks-on-ice, but sadly meant it was overall a quiet day.

I got back from Ontario on New Year’s Eve, and we had booked a ferry to head to Galiano on New Year’s Day. We were just going for a couple of days to check on things, as there had been a fair bit of snow and since it’s so rare, we wanted to see how things were looking in the snow.
