One of the chores we most look forward too each spring is cleaning the roof, and getting it ready for summer. It’s usually about a half day effort, pressure washing the roof, cleaning the glass and replanting flowers in the planters. Here are some pictures on the progress we’ve made!

We have an outdoor rug on the roof, and about every 3 years, we need to replace it. This year was one of those years. This makes the effort a little bit larger as we have to take the fire table and sofa apart to get the rug up. We bought a new rug from Costco, pulled everything apart and got things ready!

The starting point. As you can see, the rug is in pretty rough shape. We had taken most of the old plants from the planters over to the island a couple of weeks ago, so the planters are refilled with fresh soil and ready for new life.

First step was to remove the sofa (thankfully it’s modular) and then the fire table so we could pull up the old rug and then pressure wash.

Everything moved over to one side of the deck in order to pressure wash and put down the new rug. I’ll spare you all the details of the actual cleaning - no one really wants to see that.

All done! The new rug is down. The fire table is reassembled, tested and good to go. It’s all nice and clean and ready for the season.

A slightly different perspective. We had a great day to do the cleaning. Sunny and warm for a change!

The last touch was new flowers in the planters. We’ve usually done perennials and leave them for a few years. We thought we’d try annuals this year for a bit more colour.

The only thing we did not do was bring out the cushions for the couch. There’s still a fair bit of rain planned for the next week, and we’re headed to the island for a week on Sunday. So we’ll leave the cushions inside for a little while longer.
