With all that’s going on, I’m not sure I’m going to do a “Christmas” post this year. I’ll see - maybe I’ll decide to later. After Justine and I got back from Toronto (amazingly with zero flight issues!), we had a day at home before we headed to Galiano. With the ferry schedule, we had some time so decided to stop at Reifel on the way out to see what was going on at the sanctuary.

On Saturday afternoon, we had a bunch of running around to do and visits with some friends planned, all of which took us in the general direction of Delta. So we decided to go to Boundary Bay and go for a walk along the dyke and see what bird life we might find. It was a beautiful, sunny day, if a bit cold.
Read MoreA Family Visit - Lots of Bird Pics
I made another trip back to Ontario to spend some time with Dad and the rest of the family. I arrived to unseasonably warm temperatures that sadly did not last - byt the time I left I was feeling very much in the festive spirit as the snow had moved in and winter had truly arrived. I actually didn’t take a lot of pictures over the course of the week, but Mom’s bird feeders were very busy and I couldn’t help myself.

This past weekend was Justine’s birthday! While we agree we don’t do gifts, it had been a while since we’d travelled properly and we were overdue for a trip. So I booked us a weekend away at a place we had been to a few years back - Lake Crescent Lodge in Olympic National Park in Washington State.
Read MoreReifel Birding - Just the Photos
Earlier in October, Justine and I took a trip out to Reifel for a walk around, get some fresh air and see what birds were about. It was so long ago that I don’t really remember much about the day, so this post is photo heavy, without a lot of commentary.
Read MoreToulouse and Bordeaux
This post covers a work trip to Toulouse and a weekend spent exploring in a new city! It’s been a while since I have had an opportunity to check out something new. As I had a weekend before flying back to Charlotte (for a second week of work), I picked Bordeaux as a weekend destination to explore. Time for some wine…
Read MoreNew York in Photos
The post from the end of September of our trip to New York City was mostly photos taken with my iPhone, supplemented with some photos from Justine. Ater a fair bit of travelling, I had some time to look through the photos I took with my better camera, and so have added this post of photos with captions.
Read MoreA Long-Awaited Return to New York
Prior to COVID, Justine and I made a regular habit of visiting New York City (NYC). We’d averaged close to once a year over the time we’ve been together and had some of our best trips there. So, missing out for the better part of three years has been hard and it was one of the first places we wanted to get back to. Justine’s Dad was celebrating a milestone birthday and being from NYC (the Bronx to be more specific), this seemed like the perfect excuse to plan a trip!
Read MoreSome Work Around Galiano
I am getting further and further behind on post to the web site, and the next few weeks are likely to increase the backlog rather than decrease it. This past weekend, Justine and I were able to complete one major project on Galiano that we had been working on for quite some time.
Read MoreSeptember Trip to Reifel
I have a lot of posts ot catch up on, so this quick post on a September trip to Reifel will be almost all photos. We had decided to book a trip to Reifel for the day after the Fondo as a way to force us to get up and go for a walk, rather than just lying on the couch all day. It was a bit overcast, and there was not a lot going on, but it was still worth the visit.
Read More2022 Gran Fondo Whistler
An event almost 3 years in the making - we finally managed to complete the Gran Fondo from Vancouver to Whistler! This past Saturday, Justine, Nicole and I were up at the crack of dawn, gathered in Stanley Park and joined over 6,000 other crazy people in riding the 122 km up to Whistler. It was a tougher day than expected (more on that later), but we completed it, and enjoyed the day.
Read MoreA Visit to Salt Spring
Our friends Katie and John came to visit us on Galiano over the weekend. On the Saturday, we decide to make our second trip on David’s boat, and thought we’d try a bit of a longer journey. We decide to try crossing the channel to go to Salt Spring Island and check out the famous Saturday Market.

I went back to Ontario to spend a week with Dad and Mom and the family. It was a beautiful week weatherwise, which was nice. It was also the annual “camping” week, where Mom, Lisa and the kids pick a park to set the trailer up at. Which was great as it gave Dad and I some time to spend together. And since the park was only ~40 minutes away, I got to swing by and see everyone a few times.

On a recent trip to Galiano, I spent some time just taking pictures of the birds from the deck of the cottage. I thought I’d throw them up here - not a lot to add, just some fun pictures.

A couple of posts back, I introduced my friend David that took us out on his boat when he and his family came for a visit to Galiano. Now David is a much better friend then we deserve. He has another boat, a much smaller one on a trailer that he offered us to use for the rest of the summer! On this trip we took the boat out for a maiden voyage…

One of the days of the Celebration of Lights fireworks (the Canada entry, if memory serves me correctly), the Snowbirds did a flyover of Vancouver. We were fortunate enough to have a pretty good view from the roof.

Happy Canada Day! We had a fun and busy day that I thought I would share some pics from. Justine and I did a 40 km bike ride in the morning, then spent the afternoon with our friends Katie and John at their new place in Port Moody, before walking over to the Port Moody Canada Day festival to see my favorite band, 54-40! Great day!

After a month away (for me - 3 weeks for Jus) we finally got back to Galiano. In addition to the usual work around the property, we had some fun things lines up. My friend David has a boat and had booked a weekend at Montague Harbour with his family. They were coming up to our place for a BBQ on Saturday, then had offered to take us out on the boat on Sunday!
Read MoreCanadian Grand Prix and a Tour Around Montreal and Region
After a couple of weeks in Europe, it was a quick turn around at home before hoping on a plane to Montréal! Justine and I had planned a 2-week vacation (definitely needed) centered around the Canadian Grand Prix F1 race in Montreal. We wanted to do a little more than just the city, so we rented a car and headed out to explore the surrounding region as well.

It’s taken a while, but this is the last of the vacation recap posts. This one is mainly from the one day we played tourist, wandering on Mont Royal and checking out the park. The views from the city lookouts were spectacular, and there were some amazing new birds!
