Winter Weather on Galiano

I got back from Ontario on New Year’s Eve, and we had booked a ferry to head to Galiano on New Year’s Day. We were just going for a couple of days to check on things, as there had been a fair bit of snow and since it’s so rare, we wanted to see how things were looking in the snow.

There was a few inches of snow on the ground, eough to the make the lane a bit tricky. But with the new truck, it’s good tires and 4WD, it handled it no problem! It was looking quite snowy and beautiful when we arrived.

As it was supposed to start raining overnight, we wanted to make the most fo the snow and headed out for a bit of a walk in the forest. We didn’t go too far, but it was so nice to see the forest that is usually so green, blanketed in white.

We finally have a chestnut chickadee at our feeder!

We have a number of pileated woodpeckers that are regulars around the property.

We’ve been good about keeping the feeders full as much as possible. We’ve had a nice collection of birds hanging about all winter.

Justine really wanted to make a snowman, but the snow on the first day just wasn’t up for it - too light and fluffy. But overnight we got a bit of rain, and so we had an opportunity the next day.

The first snowman attempt with the light fluffy snow was… underwhelming

We had a nice couple of days at the cottage and got to play in the snow a little bit. Hopefully the weather will get back to normal a bit more, so we can start tackling the many projects on our list.
