Vacation Recap - Checking out Montreal

It’s taken a while, but this is the last of the vacation recap posts. This one is mainly from the one day we played tourist, wandering on Mont Royal and checking out the park. The views from the city lookouts were spectacular, and there were some amazing new birds!

These pics are all from the same day, a lengthy walk up Mont Royal to see the view points. Here’s what the day looked like:

The map of our day playing tourist in the city.

The route we followed (on the map above) was basically up on the left, and down on the right with a lot of wandering about at the top. On the way over to the stairs up the “mountain” we passed by College du Montreal (I think it’s a fancy high school) and took a couple of pics of the cool buildings.

They have built very nice stairs to accomodate people getting up and down.

As aI mentioned in the main vacation post, at the top of the “mountain” were a couple of lookouts with amazing views over the city. At the main one, there was this great old building that is just perched up there.

Oddly, there was a small swamp at the top of the “mountain”. I just loved the look of this tree.

While it was a short walk, we either saw or heard a whole bunch of new birds that we’ve not see before. The highlight was certainly the INdigo Bunting! I’ve been dying to see one forever. Of course, it was buried back in the branches of a tree, so the pic are not very good.

The second lookout provided a different view of the city. For this one I picked out a few interesting buildings to zoom in on.

The flowers were in full bloom, and there were lots of different bees flitting about as well.

One of the main attractions at the top is this big cross. Neat enough, but I don’t think I would have made the trip for it.

Eventually, we made our way back to the original lookout point, and then took the “Grand Staircase” back down to the bottom and back into the city to continue our day.
