A Last Post for 2022 - Birds at Reifel Of Course

With all that’s going on, I’m not sure I’m going to do a “Christmas” post this year. I’ll see - maybe I’ll decide to later. After Justine and I got back from Toronto (amazingly with zero flight issues!), we had a day at home before we headed to Galiano. With the ferry schedule, we had some time so decided to stop at Reifel on the way out to see what was going on at the sanctuary.

Justine's Birthday Weekend - Olympic National Park

This past weekend was Justine’s birthday! While we agree we don’t do gifts, it had been a while since we’d travelled properly and we were overdue for a trip. So I booked us a weekend away at a place we had been to a few years back - Lake Crescent Lodge in Olympic National Park in Washington State.

A Long-Awaited Return to New York

Prior to COVID, Justine and I made a regular habit of visiting New York City (NYC). We’d averaged close to once a year over the time we’ve been together and had some of our best trips there. So, missing out for the better part of three years has been hard and it was one of the first places we wanted to get back to. Justine’s Dad was celebrating a milestone birthday and being from NYC (the Bronx to be more specific), this seemed like the perfect excuse to plan a trip!

Some Work Around Galiano

I am getting further and further behind on post to the web site, and the next few weeks are likely to increase the backlog rather than decrease it. This past weekend, Justine and I were able to complete one major project on Galiano that we had been working on for quite some time.

September Trip to Reifel

I have a lot of posts ot catch up on, so this quick post on a September trip to Reifel will be almost all photos. We had decided to book a trip to Reifel for the day after the Fondo as a way to force us to get up and go for a walk, rather than just lying on the couch all day. It was a bit overcast, and there was not a lot going on, but it was still worth the visit.

2022 Gran Fondo Whistler

An event almost 3 years in the making - we finally managed to complete the Gran Fondo from Vancouver to Whistler! This past Saturday, Justine, Nicole and I were up at the crack of dawn, gathered in Stanley Park and joined over 6,000 other crazy people in riding the 122 km up to Whistler. It was a tougher day than expected (more on that later), but we completed it, and enjoyed the day.

Boating Adventures - Whales!

A couple of posts back, I introduced my friend David that took us out on his boat when he and his family came for a visit to Galiano. Now David is a much better friend then we deserve. He has another boat, a much smaller one on a trailer that he offered us to use for the rest of the summer! On this trip we took the boat out for a maiden voyage…

Happy Canada Day!

Happy Canada Day! We had a fun and busy day that I thought I would share some pics from. Justine and I did a 40 km bike ride in the morning, then spent the afternoon with our friends Katie and John at their new place in Port Moody, before walking over to the Port Moody Canada Day festival to see my favorite band, 54-40! Great day!

Galiano Boating Weekend

After a month away (for me - 3 weeks for Jus) we finally got back to Galiano. In addition to the usual work around the property, we had some fun things lines up. My friend David has a boat and had booked a weekend at Montague Harbour with his family. They were coming up to our place for a BBQ on Saturday, then had offered to take us out on the boat on Sunday!

Vacation Recap - Qualifying - Canadian Grand Prix

The recap continues! Saturday was qualifying, and the weather was awful. While that sucked for sitting in the stands in the pouring rain, if we were sitting at home watching this on TV, it would be exactly what we would have been hoping for! Qualifying under wet conditions almost always results in surprises and usually ends up with an interesting starting grid for race day.
