I completely forgot to do this post!
The last weekend of March we decided we needed to use the second day of our tow-day, pre-paid Edge Card from Whistler. We gambled on Saturday being a good ski day and headed up with our friend Nicole. It was a busy weekend as Justine had bought us tickets to the Juno Awards for Sunday night. It was a big weekend!
As we often have, we drove up Friday night to stay with Nicole so that we could head to the mountain early, cutting the drive time in half. We were late getting out of the city and having not eaten, we decided to stop kin North Van for a quick bite. It was after 9:00 by the time we got to Nicole’s place, and after chatting for a bit we called it a night pretty early, as we wanted to be out and on the road early Saturday morning.
The girls, ready for a big day on the slopes.
The plan worked out, and we were up to Whistler ahead of the insane traffic and managed to get a good parking spot at Creekside. While we were not the first up the gondola, we were in pretty decent shape and I think we got to the top of the mountain by 9:00.
We were ready to go!
It appeared that our gamble was going to pay off. There had been lots of fresh snow over the week and there had been a few inches of fresh snow over night. It was cold enough the it was snowing fairly low down and the conditions were as good as you could hope for late March.
The first run down to warm up our legs we could find the odd bit of fresh snow and there were some decent groomed runs available. We stayed on Whistler (as is our want), and di a couple of our usual warm up runs. We then headed over to Harmony, and then after finding out the Symphony was opening up, headed to the far edge of the resort. There was some fresh terrain out this way and we did a few laps of the lift.
It was a good day on the slopes!
Eventually we decided to work our way back. Our usual day is to start early and ski until the legs die, usually early afternoon. As this was only our second day out (and the first day had been a weather disaster), we didn’t expect to last too long. The weather up high had turned a bit and the visibility was not great, so we did a run down Saddle (off Peak Chair), then headed back up Peak Chair and did our usual Peak to Creek run all the way to the bottom. The last few kilometers were a bit rough - a lot of the snow was gone and the rocks and trees were starting to show through on the run. We were done, so it was time to call it a day and hit Dusty’s for some apres!
It was a fun day out.
Our day of skiing at Whistler. I think we ended up ding 9-10 runs and almost 30 km in total.
The Junos!
Sunday, Justine had grabbed us tickets to the Juno Awards. It was at Rogers Arena and Michael Bublé was the host. The show was OK - not surprisingly, most of the music was just not my thing. But they did the show well, there was lots of energy in the building and it was a fun night. The highlight was Sarah McLachlan presenting Anne Murray with a Lifetime Achievement Award. Well deserved.
Seedling update - they’re growing pretty well.
