Signs of Spring in Vancouver and on Galiano

I thought I would share the evidence that we’re definitely heading into spring - mostly because Ontario is still in the grip of winter and still getting snow. Not very nice of me, I know…

Vancouver Flowers

I thought I would start with some of the flowers that are out around our part of the city. While it’s still early, we do have some amazing early blossoms that are finally making it feel like spring. I don’t know why, but this year I’m really ready for winter to be over and for things to warm up.

The cherry trees at Granville Island are always one of the first signs of spring. They are huge and beautiful, and one of the earlier trees to flower.

This park is on the seawall near our place. I feel like someone must have plated all these daffodils last year, as they were not there this time a year ago.

The magnolias are another early bloomer. Some are already done!

I haven’t seen a lot of orange tulips.

Galiano Update

I am over for almost two weeks on this trip, as we are doing significant work on the Lane (or private road), as it has really degraded and is in rough shape. I’ll probably tackle that as a separate post. Justine and I came over last Thursday, she went home Sunday night and will likely come back next Friday or Saturday. In the meantime, I am working from here and making myself available in case the contractors rebuilding the road need any questions answered. I have lots of projects to tackle while I’m here, but instead of that, I’ll share some more flowers from around the property from the weekend.

The daffodils in the fire pit garden are multiplying nicely.

And the ones on the other end of the firepit garden.

Grape hyacinths are one of my favorites.

We’ve got lots of buds forming on the cherry trees.

And the pear trees are also looking very good. There’s hope for fruit this year?

The random deer proof bulbs around the property are doing well and adding some needed colour.

Our most mature cherry is just loaded with buds.
