A New Addition to the Roof

In the middle of trying to get our place put back together with the renovation, I found a great deal on a small Yardistry greenhouse that looked like it would be a perfect size for the roof! I couldn’t pass it up (free shipping too) and so we had another project to tackle at the all wrong time of the year.

For the past 5-6 years, I have been starting seeds inside under a grow light in the spare bedroom. That was working fine, but frankly I was destroying the place with splashing water, spilled soil and such. And with the reno being completed, I didn’t really want to wreck the place. So this deal came along at the right time, in that I am hoping that I can maybe do all of my seed starting outside.

Did I mention that it was half price? That seemed like too good a deal and so I jumped on it. We were a bit dismayed when the box arrived - I wasn’t home but I have no idea how the delivery guy got it to our front door. Justine and I had to take out all the pieces in order to move it piecemeal upstairs.

This was not the ideal time of year to be doing this project, as it was rainy and cold. But we needed it out of the spare bedroom, so we started working on it during the evenings as we had time. The first two major sections assembled the front and rear panels. we were able to do them on the bed in the spare bedroom.

At this point we needed to start putting all the sides together so we needed to wait for a sunny (or at least dry) day to do that. We found bits and pieces of time, stealing and hour here and there to assemble. Slowly it came together.

All four sides assembled, plus both roof panels. We just ran out of daylight.

While it was only partly assembled, we covered it with the blue tarp to try and keep it at least mostly dry. It seemed to be working out well. The instructions were really well done. Everything was very explicitly labeled and the instructions were mostly clear. We could have done it much quicker if we had been focused and had a clear day to do it all outside.

After a couple of weeks break due to some travel and the weather, this weekend we finally finished putting it all together. We just needed to install the shelves and the doors, then out it into it’s final new home. I think it turned out rather well - it’s a perfect size and I should now be able to do my seeds outside, and not mess up the guest bedroom.
