This post is a bit of a catch all from the rest of September. We had a really busy stretch with some fun things going on in the city, as well as more trips over to Galiano as we tried to keep everything alive as we head into drought season. We had Celebration of Lights (fireworks), a fly over by the Snowbirds, a Vancouver Canadians game with Alex and Matt and those trips to the island.
Each year near the end of July the city puts on the Celebration of Lights fireworks shows. There are usually 3 night - Saturday, Wednesday, Saturday, and most years 3 countries compete for the best show. There are huge crowds down at the beach, but we’re lucky enough to be able to see some of the show from our roof deck.
This year, it was three Canadian teams that were competing. We “watched” the first night form Galiano - we could see the biggest ones, even from that far away, and watch the other two from the roof. We only see the higher fireworks, and don’t get the choreographed music, but it’s still pretty fun.
Our view of the fireworks.
Justine managed to get a cool little video of the flyover.
Snowbirds!
On the Wednesday night, the Snowbirds put on a show over the city. Most of it was out over the water and where the crowds were gathered for the fireworks show, but we had a couple of direct flyovers, right above our place.
I took a lot of photos of the planes during their show, More below if you want to click through them.

Earlier this year, Alex, Matt, Justine and I had booked tickets for a Vancouver Canadians game that got rained out. On the 27th, we managed to find a date on our respective calendars that worked and this time the weather behaved. We met up at the stadium for a fun afternoon, which we carried on at Red Truck brewing after the game was over. It was a fun day.
Galiano Update
I figured I would share a few photos from the island, of things in different states of growth/bloom. It’s been a pretty good year so far!
