This weekend was our last weekend at home before our trip back to Ontario to spend time with our families over the Christmas break. The weather wasn’t looking too bad, and we were hoping to sneak in a couple of activities on Sunday - a trip to Reifel to see what birds were about, and a last trip to the Christmas market. There are a couple of other random things here as well…
Read MoreUpdates from Vancouver and Galiano
It’s been a while since I posted any recent updates. I’ve been trying to catch up on posts from the Netherlands, and I’m most of the way through those. It’s been slow for a number of reasons, which I’ll go through in this post. There are some interesting updates from Justine’s birthday, mushroom foraging, and our recent “bomb cyclone”.

Work is insanely busy right now, so I’m having a hard time getting to updates from the Netherlands trip. We’ve also had some fun days here in Vancouver, so I thought I’d do a quick and easy update from the last trip to Galiano and recent photos from Vancouver - we had another amazing Northern Lights display!

I just got back from a 10-day work trip to Nashville and Boston. And then had knee surgery, and so I am falling further behind on posts. This one is from before the trip, when Justine and I did a hike up on the Sea to Sky Gondola in Squamish. We needed to get another day on our season pass, and it looked like it was going to be a beautiful day. So it seemed like the right time to do it!
Read MoreA Great Day at Reifel - Owls!
I’m still way behind on posts, so this one will be mostly photos. We had a spare day on the weekend, and Justine was able to snag us a spot at Reifel. This time of year is good, with lots of interesting birds on migration. But we’re always secretly (or not so secretly) hoping for owls, and this trip did not disappoint!
Read MoreA Visit from Mom
We were lucky enough to have Mom come and stay with us for a week over my birthday weekend! She was in town for a Wednesday to Wednesday, over the long weekend. We had a couple of days in Vancouver and then we headed over to Galiano, as she really wanted to see all that we had done. We did need her help with one last project to finish off the new deck…
Read MoreA Spring Visit to Reifel
With spring upon us, we were long overdue for a visit out to Reifel to check on the birds. And with the spring migration in full force, and with it being time for baby birds, we were hopeful that we’d have a good day out. Alex has moved out to Vancouver for the summer for her “summering” at a local law firm, and as she had expressed an interest to come along, she and Matt joined us for a fun day out.
Read MoreThe Pottery Reveal
While I will deliver the promised pottery reveal, this post will also cover a lot of other ground, including a fun night out in Vancouver and the completion of the first major phase of our deck on Galiano. I’ll sneak in a garden update as well, but amazingly, no birds!

I am a bit overdue on a new update, and while nothing really interesting has happened, there has been a lot of smaller things going on. So I thought I’d try and wrap it all up in one post and share a few photos and some updates. I’m not really sure how this one is going to work out, but let’s get into it and see how it goes…
Read MoreHiking in Squamish
Over the long weekend we headed up to Squamish to do a day hike at the top of the Sea to Sky Gondola. We were hoping to go snowshoeing, but with this winter being what it is, there’s hardly any snow, even at elevation. So we met our friend Nicole at the gondola and deaded up to see what we would find!
Read MoreA Quite Day at Boundary Bay
We were out running some errands are were close enough to Delta to make it worthwhile heading a little further out to go for a walk along the dyke at Boundary Bay. We’ve had lots of luck there, and while the time of day wasn’t great, we figured it was worth it, even just to get in a bit of a walk.

Starting on Tuesday night, we got a serious blast of winter. By the time it was all done with, we apparently got 28cm of snow, making it something like the 4th biggest single day snowfall in the city’s recorded history. On Wednesday, we got out for a walk in the afternoon, as it was still coming down, to enjoy the snow. We don’t get a lot, and it is a bit magical when we do.
