Whistler Half Marathon Weekend

At least 6 months ago, Justine and I booked in to run the Whistler race. I was going to do the half marathon, Justine the 10K. Sadly, in the months leading up to the race I have come down with a weird injury on my foot that has kept me from training.  Its been frustrating and very aggravating, but we weren't going to let it stop us fro having a good weekend in Whistler.

It was a bit odd being up there, not having been up skiing all winter. We have been boycotting Whistler with the change in ownership, as they are clearly not interested in local skiers being part of the community any longer. $175 day tickets - no thanks. We'll keep driving down to Mount Baker. We had hoped that summer would be better, but it wasn't much.

We stayed at a hotel in the main village, which is always nice. Very cool loft room. We had stayed at this hotel before, but the upgraded room was a bonus.

The race was Saturday morning, and I decided to try out the foot and run the 10K with Justine. It wasn't great, but I made my way through it and finished at roughly the same pace as Justine. Sadly it pointed out that the foot is still a long way from being better.

A successful run.

The weekend itself was pretty mellow. We wandered around, went out for dinner and drinks and basically relaxed. We also went out for a bit of a hike around the trails around the Village, since the weather was quite nice.

I had a flight to Europe Sunday evening, so we had to head home fairly early on Sunday. More about that trip coming up in future posts. I have quite a few photos to get through, before that one will be ready.

We had a nice weekend, and it's always good to hang out in Whistler.
