The Petronas Towers

The Petronas Towers

The flight from Singapore was easy - barely an hour - and soon we were getting off the plane in even warmer weather. Unlike our previous stops the trip through immigration was a bit of a nightmare. Huge lines that seemed to take forever. Not that it ended up mattering as we had to still wait for our luggage.

We took a cab from the airport into downtown Kuala Lumpur where our hotel was located. I had stayed at this same hotel the last time I came to KL, and it really is in an ideal location. The hotel is at the edge of KL City Park, which is at the feet of the world famous Petronas twin towers. They really are a spectacular bit of architectural design and engineering.

After getting checked in, Cyprien and I walked to the mall in the towers to grab some lunch. We ended up walking around a bit before coming back. I needed to get a run in to keep on plan, but didn't really want to run in 40 degree heat. So I went up to the gym and used a treadmill. Not ideal, but better than nothing.

After my workout, I cooked off and then we headed out for the evening. We had heard about this Saturday night Night Market that was supposed to be quite interesting, so we headed in that direction. The market was packed, stuffed into tiny, narrow streets. Lots of food and lots of knock off Frozen merchandise.

Exploring the area actual took quite a while and it was fascinating to watch the world go by. We ate during our wandering and enjoyed the warm summer evening. Soon it was back to the hotel to call it a night, after stopping for a drink at a local pub.

Sunday, we decided to do some sight seeing. We took a taxi over to the Islamic Art Museum and spent a few hours checking out the amazing displays. Some of the art is just incredible, and it was really interesting to see a lot of things that don't typically make it into traditional western museums.

After the museum, we went next door to the Malaysian National Mosque. Another amazing piece of architecture. Unfortunately we missed visiting hours for non-Muslims, and so we could only look around the outside. Still, pretty impressive.

As I needed to figure out a long run today, I decided I needed to stop wandering about as a tourist, and relax for a bit. So Cyprien and I parted ways for a while, and I headed back to the hotel after we had lunch.

I spent the afternoon doing work, reading and watching a bit of TV. Very relaxing and not a bad way to spend the afternoon. Once the sun started to go down, I got ready and went out for a run. I was supposed to do 1:45, but even with the sun down, it was ridiculously hot and humid. I found a route that took me out towards a big city park, and eventually found my way there. That ended up being a bit of a mistake as I ended up in the park, only to discover that it was closed for the night. I ended up having to climb over a fence to get out. It was a bit crazy.

And I was post. A couple of people helped get me back on course, and eventually I found my way back to the hotel. The huge, well-lit towers certainly didn't hurt with that. Unfortunately I was only at 1:35 when I got back, and not was easily the slowest run I've done in a long time. So I called it a victory at that, and went up to collapse for the rest of the night.
