The next leg of our trip was to Singapore for meetings with two new potential partners. The flight from Seoul to Singapore was about six hours, and I was happy that I had two seats to myself, which let me sleep a little bit along the way.
It was mid-afternoon by the time we arrived and got through the airport. It was well below zero when we left Seoul, and it was 30 degrees when we landed in Singapore. Quite the change!
After taking a taxi to the hotel, we got settled in. Our hotel was on Orchard Road, right in the heart of the main shopping district and all the high end fashion/retail. Made for interesting walking around near the hotel.
After getting settled, we went for a walk towards downtown. It was damn hot, and pushing towards dinner time. So we stopped at the Raffles Hotel (originator of the Singapore Sling) and had dinner in the courtyard. Very cool hotel, and we were also treated to an early evening downpour. I love tropical rain!
After dinner we headed back to the hotel and called it an early night. The next day, we had a full day of meetings with a potential partner that went very well. They took us for lunch at an Indian restaurant which was quite good. After the meeting were over we checked out a local high tech shopping mall - all cameras and gadgets - but sadly very expensive here, and nothing I can't get at home.
After that we headed back to the hotel, and got out of the suit. We took a taxi down to the waterfront to see the amazing downtown core and all the crazy buildings. It's something to see. We spent the rest of the night on the RiverWalk, this nice long pedestrian path along the river, with shops and restaurants and bars. It's really nice, and was an excellent way to spend the evening.
After that, it was back to the hotel to do some work and then get to sleep. The next day we also had a good day of meetings with another potential partner. Very different from the previous day, but also very promising. We wrapped a little earlier than the day before, which allowed us to spend the last few hours of the afternoon at the Singapore Bird Park.
The park was really nice - huge aviaries with birds from all over the world. It wasn't the best setup for taking pictures, but I got to give my new camera a bit of a try. It's nice to have a camera again. I'll get some proper photos up soon.
After the bird park we experienced Singapore's Friday afternoon traffic. Brutal. Took an hour to get back to the RiverWalk to a brew pub we had noticed the day before. Crazy. Dinner was good, and we enjoyed the area again before heading back to the hotel to pack for our flight to Kuala Lumpur.
Singapore is a cool city, and I'd like to come back to see it properly. All this work getting in the way... Next stop, KL.
