Yes, this is likely to be the last post for a while. I am all caught up on Japan (go read them!) and I will do a quick post on this past weekend. But we’re about to start a pretty significant renovation on our townhouse, and so i will need to pack away my computer for a while. I thought I would take another brief break from the Japan posts to stay current with other fun things going on. After getting back from Taiwan, we had a brief trip over to Galiano for the remainder of the weekend. We got some things done, relaxed and then came home for a busy week. Thursday was Justine’s birthday, on Saturday we went to Reifel and had a Skydigger concert in the evening and Sunday we went up Sea to Sky Gondola with Alex and Matt. Oh and we’ve started packing up to move most of our stuff out for the reno.

The big news this summer was my change of jobs from Semtech to NETGEAR. It’s been a little over a month, and while there are challenges I think I am happy with the decision. A couple of weeks after I started we had our Summer Party, up at Grouse Mountain. This was great, as it gave me a chance to meet with many of my new colleagues, and the two people that report to me were also attending in person.

We’re going to take a short break from the Maritimes updates (yes, they are going to take a while longer…) as I have some exciting news to share! I have changed jobs, leaving Semtech (Sierra Wireless) after almost 10 years (!) to join my new team at Netgear! I’ll share some more later in the post, along with an update the the week we spent on Galiano at the end of June and beginning of July. It’s exciting times!

Today was going to be a big day! We were starting at Inverness on the Cabot Trail, had plans to hike the Skyline Trail, and then we had about a 4 1/2 hour drive across Nova Scotia and into New Brunswick to end up at our cool geodesic dome on the Bay of Fundy. As usual, we were trying to cram in way too much.

Our Cabot Trail day started early, with a bunch of new birds added to the life list (you’ve been warned). We spent the day driving, admiring the stunning beauty of the place and making a couple of stops to do some short hikes (and to feed the bugs….) It was an amazing day.

We’ve had a busy few weeks and we’re off to Halifax later this evening for a long-overdue vacation. It should be fun. In the meantime, my birthday has come and gone, the owls have had their owlets, the gardens on Galiano are coming along well, and there are lots of bird photos. The usual.

I had a rare treat this week - I was spending more than a week on Galiano! We came over on a Thursday evening, I and was staying through the following Sunday to manage the Panorama Lane road rebuild. Justine was taking the ferry back on Sunday night, and coming back over on the following Friday night. While I had a busy week of work ahead of me, it also meant I could focus on a number of projects in the evenings.

The year is off to a busy start. I had originally planned to go to Pune in November, but after my knee surgery got scheduled, I had to push it into January. I was there for only a week, with a very busy agenda and a lot to cover. There was not much time for personal activities, but we did have a holiday on the Tuesday, so there is a bit to share from the hike we did.
