I realized that it has been a while since I posted anything. Work has been busy, we’ve had a few uneventful trips to Galiano, but generally there has not been a lot to report on. That’s going to change soon, as Justine and I are off to Japan next week! So it will likely be a while before there are posts, at least here. I will try something new this time, and might try and post a few things on Instagram. We’ll see if it sticks. You can follow me at @warrencartwright9

For this post, there’s not a lot. A few garden updates and a couple of fun photos to share. See you in Japan!

I thought this was a good photo from the Bird Buddy. Good detail on the little Anna’s, and the second one zooming away behind was kind of fun!

The garden this year was, overall, a failure. It was weird how little grew this year. As we’ll be away for a few weeks, we needed to harvest what was available. The pole beans we were a bit early on. But we got a good 2-3 cups of shelled beans from them. I really like the purple ones. The squash stayed tiny and we got the first delicata of the season. There are a bunch more, which I hope will still be there when we get back.

While I was out golfing this morning, the deer were having breakfast off this poor tree.

I late planted some sunflower seeds I had kicking around. And surprisingly, they grew and bloomed!

I tried trellising my tomatoes this year. It worked quite well, except that they are all still green. We’ve had a few (and they were delicious) but I’m guessing we’re going to miss most of them.

Justine has had a few of her dahlias bloom late this season as well.

We were most excited by the fact that the orchard finally produced fruit in quantity this year. We ended up with 5 Anjou pears, probably 20 Bartlett pears, a dozen honey crisp apples (about ½ what’s on the tree) and a half dozen Ambrosia apples. The Ambrosia’s are not ready yet, so we only picked a few. It’s a very exciting harvest!
