Saturday we decided to make a beach day, and so spent all of the day at Olowalu Beach, enjoying the sun, relaxing and doing a lot of snorkelling. It was a great day out and we saw lots of cool things.
This is likely to be the shortest post of the trip. I took a fair bit of video while snorkelling, and I will eventually get through that footage and post something. But that’s going to take a while.
In the morning, we made the call to spend the day at the beach. So we backed up food and drinks and our beach gear and drove south to Olowalu Beach.
It’s a pretty unassuming place that you drive by every time you go up to Lahaina. You have to pull right off the highway into some parking along the beach - there can’t be more than 20m between the edge of the road and the water (but my estimates could be horrible). It doesn’t look like much, but there’s a huge coral reef system just offshore that you can snorkel to easily.
We were down at a reasonable time in the late morning, which gave us lots of time to unwind and get in the water. Over the course of the day, I probably went out 3-4 times for fairly long stretches. At one point we hit low tide and some of the reef structures were visible above the water.
As mentioned, there weren’t a lot of photos taken that day. It was super windy and the sand was blowing around, so I didn’t want to take my camera out. I’ll get to the video eventually, but for now here’s one good pic of the highlight of the day!
