My new company hold an annual sales conference in January each year. It's held in Huntington Beach California, and being new to the company was a great opportunity for me to meet the new team, and learn a ton. It was a fun event as well, and California in the middle of the winter is never a bad thing.
We were staying at the Hilton, a great spot right across from the beach, with great views and also close to the pier and the small downtown. We had 275 of the 295 rooms in the hotel booked - basically we had the place to ourselves. I was traveling with one of my direct co-workers, and due to the timing of our arrival into LAX, we had a limo to take us the 45 minutes to the hotel. Traveling in style!
The sales meeting itself was pretty standard - lots of sales training and product overviews, followed by evening events and more drinking than I care to remember. It was good to meet the team and do some relationship building. We did dinners at the hotel for the most part, but we did do a boat cruise one night, which was fun.
As I'm still trying to keep up my training for the half marathon, I was good about getting out for runs in the morning. Being right on the beach made it easy, as there was a path heading both north and south that gave me great choices.
It was a fun week, and it's been a good reinforcement of my choice to join Sierra Wireless!
