It was Justine's birthday this past weekend, so I booked a little weekend getaway for us to the historic Lake Crescent Lodge on the Olympic Peninsula in northwest Washington. Our friends Jo and Stuart joined us for the trip, and we had a fun weekend enjoying (the mostly rainy) Olympic National Park.

My cousin Stephanie came out to visit with Justine and I for a few days. It was her first time in Vancouver (visiting from Ontario), and it was a lot of fun to show her the sites. We had amazing weather (for late October), so she got to see the best of Vancouver.

Katie scored us awesome seats in a private box for the Foo Fighters show on Friday night. How do you say no to that?

The last day of an amazing trip. We covered over 7,700 kms, saw a ton of wildlife and some of the most spectacular scenery I've ever seen. It was an amazing trip, and it was great to spend time with Mom and Dad while exploring a new part of the country.

Our second last day, and a long day on the road. We started in BC at Liard River Hot Springs Park, and ended up in Alberta in Fort St. John BC, right on the BC/Alberta border. It was a pretty long day, but it was probably our best day for wildlife - sheep, moose and caribou. The scenery was pretty amazing as well.

It was a bit of a long day today, but also a very good one. We were leaving the Yukon, and heading back into BC. I bit bittersweet, as it's been an amazing trip. The day started early (sunrise) and went late (another Northern Lights show), and in between we saw lots of bison, visited the hot springs and finally managed to shave.

We had a reasonable drive today. We left Cramacks at a good time, made a couple short stops, then a lengthy one in Whitehorse to take care of some errands. From there it was a short trip to Teslin Lake, where we were able to relax. Later that night we got treated to an amazing Northern Lights show.

Today was the epic day of the road trip. From our base at Tombstone Territorial Park, we made the long drive up the Dempster Highway to the Arctic Circle. With only one place to stop for gas in 400 km of road, there were some risks. To make the trip more manageable, we left the trailer behind, and brought Uncle Dave and Linda with us in Dad's truck. It was an epic 15 hour day - but did we make?

Today was a short driving day, and a nice break from the road. After spending the morning in Dawson City, we headed north to the Dempster Highway, and a short drive to the Tombstone campground in Tombstone Territorial Park. We got in a hike in the snow, and enjoyed a fire in the chilly weather.

Today's trek took us into Alaska for a short while, before we crossed back into the Yukon at the northernmost border crossing. The scenery was spectacular, despite the less-than-ideal weather. The fall colours were beautiful, but the roads were a challenge today.

We spent the day touring around Kluane National Park, first heading south to explore, then north towards the Alaska border. We made a great stop at Tachäl Dhäl (Sheep Mountain) Visitor Centre where we saw a huge number of Dall Sheep (from a distance).

We had a day to spend in Whitehorse, and we managed to fit in quite a diverse range of activities. We hiked Miles Canyon, visited the Yukon Wildlife Centre and sampled the local breweries. All in all, fine day despite the rain!

Today's drive was between two really nice provincial parks. There wasn't a lot to see en route, but we got our first Northern Lights show at Boya Lake, with loons providing the background music.

Day 4 was the best day of the trip so far. We saw the Nisga’a Memorial Lava Bed Park, found an amazing lake-side campsite at Meziadin Lake Provincial Park, and did a side trip out to Stewart Alaska to see glaciers, bears and other wildlife. It was a pretty amazing day.

In early August, Justine and I took Ethan for the day and took him on the pirate ship. This is a pretty cool kids-oriented day adventure, where the kids get to dress up as pirates, do a little tour of False Creek and play out an adventure on the high seas.
