Unexpected Whale Watching

During the early part of the year, humpback whales migrate from Alaskan waters to Hawaii to mate and give birth. That makes Maui the epicentre for whale watching this time of year, and we saw whales everyday during our trip - from the hotel, from the beach, while driving the coast, and of course, from boats.

On the day that we booked the snorkelling trip out to Molokini, we were fortunate enough to come across a number of humpback whales on the short 15 minute ride out to the crater.

This was probably my favourite picture from this sighting. A couple of whales (mother and young) playing. You're seeing their pectoral fins as they spin upside down in the water.
