So it comes to an end. It’s been kind of fun sorting through almost a summer’s worth of photos to create the “Summer Update” series. While many of them fit into some clear and obvious categories, I suspected there would be a bunch that didn’t really fit. And so we come to the last post in the collection. This will be pretty random, so consider yourselves warned…
Late June - Morning Beach
This was our first swim of the year. Morning BEach is at the south end of the island, and is arguably the best beach for swimming. At high tide the water is a perfect depth, and there is a lot of sand. We’ve had very warm water here over the years, but sadly this day it was cold!
Late June - Morning Beach
Mackenzie made us this amazing bag, and we use it for carrying our towels when we go to the beach.
Late June - Hammock Set-up
Late last year we bought this amazing 2-person hammock. We set it up early this year, and it is excellent for afternoon naps, not that we ever have time for that.
Late June - Sunset
We’ve always had quite nice sunsets, but some get downright amazing!
Late June - Sunset
These are probably the most photographed trees on our property.
Late June - Sunrise
The sunrises are equally nice. Generally we prefer not to be up for them, but when you are it is so worth it.
Early July - Bodega Ridge Hike
A view out and over the Trincomali Channel from the Bodega Ridge hike. We’ve done this hike a few times over the summer, and the view is always amazing.
Early July - Sunset
Another view of the most photographed sunset on Galiano.
Late July - Parallel 49 Brewery
We didn’t spend the whole summer on Galiano. As things started to open up a bit, we even went to restaurants (and breweries!). This is an amazing mural on the patio at Parallel 49 Brewery - one of our favs.
Late July - Parallel 49 Brewery
The patio where we enjoyed an early dinner one glorious afternoon.
Late July - Granville Island Gardens
Now this is a species of thistle that I can handle.
Late July - Granville Island Gardens
I thought the colour in this poppy was outstanding, and needed a photograph.
Late July - Bodega Ridge
The “pop-up” restaurant at Bodega Ridge has many amazing things, not the least are the colorful chicken eggs for sale.
Late July - Mount Sutil Farm
Every year, they do “garden visits” on Galiano, where different people open their (usually) homes to allow visits to see what they have done with their gardens. This year, Mount Sutil Farm opened their gates. It was a long, fairly tough hike up but well worth it. We got so many ideas, say that our pears were at the same stage their are, and even saw how they grow things in their very homemade greenhouse!
Late July - Mount Sutil Farm
A view over the farm, with many of the fruit trees.
Late July - Sunflowers on the Roof
Back in Vancouver, the sunflowers were still doing very well…
Late July - Sunflowers
It’s hard to tell, but this was the smallest sunflower grown on the roof this year. Barely a foot tall, but very pretty.
Late July - Mobile Vaccination Clinic
On one of our triops to the island, we saw that they had set-up a mobile vaccination clinic - so smart. We saw a few people do it - every person helps. If you haven’t done it yet, please go do so.
Early August - Arbutus Tree
Earlier this summer we had bought some trees from the Conservancy, including this tiny arbutus tree. It was maybe 3-4 inches tall. Safely enclosed in deer fencing, it’s already over a foot tall!
Early August - Saving the Maple
After the deer knocked over the weak fencing job we did, we re-fenced the maple. Hopefully it will now survive a little better.
