Vancouver Wanderings

I’m a bit behind on posts again, so I thought I’d share a quick one with some pics from the rooftop and wanderings around Vancouver. I’ll try and get my post from my week of vacation on Galiano Island as soon as I can get to it.

Fair warning - this one will be a bit all over the place. We’ve been trying to stay as active as possible this summer, which has meant a lot of walks, particularly in the evenings. Lately, that has come with some amazing sunsets.

The city has started construction on the new Broadway subway line. This is a short, 6 km extension of one of the existing lines that will run along Broadway, just a few blocks south of us. It should be quite handy for us when complete. It’s a big project, not sue to be completed until 2025.

Not far from us, they’ve started construction on the main station at Broadway and Granville. I’m assuming this will be one of the bigger ones. They’ve knocked down almost and entire block to start the construction of the new building that will also house the station.

Almost the full block has been knocked down to make way for the new station.

The roof has become something of a jungle…

One of the things we love most about our home in Vancouver is our roof-top deck. It’s saved us during COVID, having space to get outside while still being just us. I’m honestly not sure we’d have done as well as we have if we were cooped up in some small condo with no outdoor space.

We’ve always had plants on the roof, and we’ve had a small raised veggie bed for a couple of years, but it’s always underwhelmed with production. Maybe it’s because I’m usually traveling a lot, and don’t give it full attention. The past couple of years I’ve also planted some seeds to a few trees, and those are starting to get to a reasonable size. But basically our roof deck has become a jungle! So I thought I’d share a few pictures.

Last week, one of my good friends from high school turned 50. To celebrate, we went out for our first real “indoor” dinner since the pandemic started. We went downtown to Hawksworth in the hotel Georgia and had a fabulous dinner!

we did the tasting menu - so yummy!

I also managed to get out and play a round of golf with some friends. Having not played in ages, it went surprisingly well.

This past week, we headed inot a full moon. As I was out for a walk one light last week, I got a few interesting pics. Just with the phone, so the quality isn’t great.

A few last pics of an amazing sunset the other night from the roof.
