The Shed Project Continues...

We got back to Galiano this past weekend to continue building our new shed. The last time we were over, we got all the framing done, and soI had high hopes for making good progress this weekend. We took the ferry over Friday night, and were coming back late on Sunday, so we had a good stretch of time.

We were on the 7:30 ferry on Friday night, and saw our neighbors in the ferry line up. The ferry was delayed (there had been a bunch of issues with mechanical problems on the ferries during the week, and so it seemed we were late as a result. It had started to rain a bit as we arrived at Galiano, which was problematic as we had to set-up the tent, and we were camping all weekend.

The rain let up a bit, and we managed to get the tent setup without too much issue. And just in time as the rain started up a bit harder, and so we called it a night. The rain was still coming down pretty hard and so we got to sleep in a bit. Before too long, the rain slowed enough and we got going on our shed project. I set-up a tarp to try and keep us dry.

To refresh your memory, this is as far as we got the last time.

By about lunch time, we had assembled all the framed walls and roof, and it was starting to look like a shed.

A closer view

The roof took quite a while to do. Neither of us had ever done cedar shingles before, and it was a bit of a learning curve. By the end of the day on Saturday, the roof was on and shingled, and we had done about a quarter of the side wall.

The weather cleared up a bit for us. And we’re getting pretty overgrown as the grass and flowers are out of control!

Sunday morning the weather was beautiful, and I got up early and went and played 9 holes of golf. After I got back, we got back to building.

We started slow, but as we got into the groove, the cedar siding went up pretty quickly.

By mid-afternoon, we took the project as far as we could. We got it all sealed up and all the outside done except for the finishing touches. We also have to complete the inside, but we’ll save that for next time.

Sunday was a beautiful day.

After pausing our construction, we sent a bunch more time cleaning up around the property. We’ll hopefully finish next weekend when we get back over.
